Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS)

A common component of cancer care is radiation therapy. Depending on the tumor type and location, radiation therapy may be the sole treatment or part of a multi-modal treatment protocol for your pet’s cancer. There are several types of radiation therapy. One of the most frequently used forms is external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), which uses high-energy beams directed at the tumor site to kill cancer cells.

Common tumors treated with EBRT include but are not limited to, tumors derived from the skin, nose, brain, mouth, bones, and gastrointestinal system.

Our radiation oncology team uses advanced cross-sectional imaging, such as CT and MRI, to localize the tumor. A linear accelerator produces and focuses a beam of radiation precisely where the tumor is located.

Our Radiation Capabilities:

Varian Halcyon Linear Accelerator with stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) capability. SRT involves the delivery of a high-intensity radiation beam to treat certain macroscopic tumors.

We are unable to utilize stereotactic radiation therapy in all tumors; therefore, we offer full-course radiation therapy and palliative radiation therapy protocols.
